Description : Port Renfrew in Vancouver Island is an exposed beach break that has fairly consistent surf Offshore winds blow from the northeast. Windswells and groundswells in equal measure and the ideal swell direction is from the west. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights. Rarely crowded here. Dangerous rips are a hazard of surfing here. I saw this spot working really well during my first session there, it was too dark to capture correctly but the barrels off the sand bar where big and heavy. The current makes this an extremely difficult spot to get and stay in the lineup, similar to Jordan River one needs some serious paddling arms, good timing and a little bit of luck to get the best of the spot. For those who don’t mind their gear getting trashed, the beach break can offer some fun waves too, you just have to know when to bail. It is a great little town though, and the waves are empty making it worth a look if you are ever in the area.
